HELP! I can't install your products.

I installed Avast Free and uninstalled it then I wanted to reinstall it and it will not allow me to. There is no folder to have the uninstall utility work on and just clicking it do delete the registry, etc…, entries doesn’t do a thing.

So, I thought I would try a trial of the pro version and when I try to install it I get the same message that I need to reboot before it will install it but I have rebooted 20 times since then.

So, what doI do to fix this since there is no force install option (sort stupid not to have that as a flag).

  • Use THIS to uninstall.
  • Download the latest version from HERE
  • Try to install it.

I tried all of that numerous times and it always failed. After an hour of wasting my time I reinstalled an image I had without your software.

Thanks.

is there any other security program installed on your comp?

Not then nor now. What I used was Revo Uninstaller Pro and I ended up in the dead man’s loop. You would think there would be a way to force the installation or at least a way for us to remove the trail that is keeping Avast from installing telling me I need to reboot first yet I had rebooted at least 20 times as I was trying various things.

Sorry we missed that.

Since you’ve restored an known good disk image, maybe something in that image is possibly preventing a clean install of avast!

How did you uninstall any previous a/v programs? Any a/v programs come with your system? These need to be uninstalled if present even if never used.

Avast antivirus final removal guide here: http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11#artTitle Use whichever tools apply and reboot after use of each one to remove any left-over drivers from previous a/v installs that will interfere with proper avast! installation.

You can get the final version of 8.0.1497 free here if 2014 9.0.2008 free does not work for you: http://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/download/0c203d8e8244458c5da81998eb76f523/ (Filehippo direct download link to avast free 8.0.1497)

Once you’ve run any tools you need, then you’ve got a clean environment to install avast free. Should work this time.

Umm, Revo should never be used for uninstalling security programs. Which is why only the vendor’s final uninstall tools should be used. Link provided above will suit your purposes just fine.

Want to bet? As I said nothing was on my system. No lingering (orphan) registry entries, no folders, nothing I could latch on to so the uninstaller would work. Just clicking it, as I also said, did not work either.

Considering Revo brought up your uninstaller all I can say is this is an issue with a sticky program with no regards to the end user. Hell, even AVG, which I despise, has a force option for rare cases like this but yours had nothing and I had to reinstall an image which did not have Avast on it because your software, regardless of the reason, forced me to take that drastic of a measure.

Have you tried the online install ?

I did not but after googling for an answer I would have tried that had I found a link.

Noticed there are tonnes of reads of this unresolved issue
and far less of the resolved issue on another forum post here so
this is most likely your issue

Try downloading the offline installer, online installers are terrible and a variable millisecond of disconnect can mean, and usually does mean, missing crucial files and corrupted installs.

Kudos for helping but this is an very old thread: November 18, 2013.

Much has changed since then.
