HELP-I CAN'T UNDERSTAND

In these days avast antivirus sometimes tell me that the file “link optimizer"have a virus and i put the file in the avast basket.
But the program"Link optimizer” remains in the “programs” folder of the unit C:

After having deleted the file from the folder, i noticed that there are two strange applications (JtvZtj and KyddkdNa)in the programs folder that i can’t delete!!!. Every day all this happen.

I scan with avast and he told me that there are no virus…

I hope you can help me because i am not expert i can’t understando.

thanks

every time i start the computer a new application with these kind of strange names in the “programs” folder appears, is it normal???

another thing:i have noticed that my ad aware se was not updated, i have updated and scanned, found 162 critical objects and cancelled. do you think my system is ok now???

i apologize for the requests, but i need help because i’m not expert

I suggest you schedule a boot time scanning with avast and download, install, update and run www.ewido.net 8)

To schedule the boot time scanning of avast, do:

Click on the Menu button.
Choose Schedule Boot Time Scan.
Doing so displays a dialog allowing you to schedule virus scanning.
Check Archives, if you want scan all the archives.
Specify whether all the disks or just a specific folder should be scanned.
Select Advanced options for scheduling details.
Select how to automatically process infected files.
Choose how to automatically process infected system files.
Click the Schedule button to confirm the settings.

thank you very much…

i’ve made an online scan with the program that you have told me and it has found new infections to remove. why ad aware se have found no new infection before???

the anti-malware software has the function to prevent malware an dpyware or to remove it when found?? because it doesn’t prevent , it onli fopund in pc and delete

Because no program is perfect ;D
I think the detection rate of Lavasof is very poor. If I were you, I’ll use www.ewido.net (XP) 8)

Depends… Lavasoft Ad-aware has Ad-watch to prevent, SpyBot has TeaTimer, Ewido has a resident guard too.
The secret will be the hability to detect the spywares, the detection rate. Ewido is one of the best nowadays.
Oh, keep avast residents on too… avast is an antivirus and ewido is an antyspyware 8)

thank you very much, i have other 2 questions…

i can have simultaneously on my system lavasoft and ewido???

  • quite every time I use my computer avast says that there’s a troian in linkoptimizer program. And everty time i can delete it succesfully. But i don’t know what’s that “linkoptimizer” and why this happens all times. ??? after scanning avast doesn’t find any virus…

thanks

Yes. But I suggest you don’t use Ad-watch (the resident of Lavasoft) with the ewido guard (resident).
In fact, if you want to buy and use any resident, choose ewido for sure 8)

If a virus is replicant (coming and coming again), you should:

  1. Disable System Restore on Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];310405
  2. Clean your temporary files.
  3. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast. Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning. Select for scanning archives. Boot.
  4. Use ewido (trojan remover)

Other option is scanning in SafeMode (repeatedly press F8 while booting): http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315222

Other good thing is disable System Restore, boot, enable it again. If you find a virus keeps coming back after you delete it, it’s most probably infected the System Restore folder, the best way to solve this is to disable System Restore, reboot your machine and then enable it again. After all, run a full avast! scanning. System Restore cannot be disabled on Windows 9x and it’s not available in Windows 2k.

Enable/Disable System restore on Windows ME: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q264887
Enable/Disable System restore on Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];310405

thank you very much!!! i will try now…and i will tell you the results…

the last thing, is it normal that a new hidden application appears in the program folder every time i use my pc??. i had linked this fact to the virus one, but probably theres’s no correlation

If you’re talking that some ‘recent’ installed applications appeared greyed on the Start Menu, well, you can configure it.
Right click the panel (where there is no icon or other buttom) and choose ‘Configure’ or something like that.
You’ll see the possibility of configure this at the very bottom of the options (something related to ‘programs’… I don’t know how it’s in English Windows).

nor me m8 i dont even know im doin ear lol :stuck_out_tongue:

 Hi Paso :

I have Avast, Ad-Aware, and Ewido on my computer ; each
program looks for different "things", so one may find
something that the other(s) do not . It's called a "Layered
  Defense" .
I sure would like to know the "categories" of the 162
"critical items" that Ad-Aware found, especially what the
"Hosts File" Scan revealed. Did it say something like :
  "Scanning Hosts file......

Hosts file location:“C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts”.
»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»

Hosts file scan result:
»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»
13 entries scanned. "

 OR something like this :

"Scanning Hosts file…
Hosts file location:“C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts”.
»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»

Hosts file scan result:
»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»
1 entries scanned. " ???

When using Ad-Aware, there is no “cancel” option; however, there is an option to “Quarantine”
or “Delete/Remove”; which one of these 2 did you choose ?

 Hi Tech :

Just saw this posted on an Ad-Aware oriented forum :

Looks like it is detecting very well for some people !?

Looks like some people are getting infected that easy ;D
Well, I never found any of these nasties in my computer. Anyway, glad to know Adware is not dead… I’m tired of scanning with it and detects nothing, while ewido is telling me this is not truth :stuck_out_tongue:
Thanks 8) 8)

no, the application in green appear with a different name like eu ntrfd something like that in the programs folder in the unit C: every time

i use the delete button

i use the delete button
Hopefully none of those items detected where false positives. Delete should always be your last choice. Quarantine would have been the prudent choice because you can always restore something you've quarantined. Files placed in quarantine can no longer harm your system just as files place into the Virus Chest. Unfortunately once you've deleted the file, there sometimes isn't any way to reverse your decision.

 Hi Paso :

Like Bob said, whether you are using an antivirus program
like Avast or an antispyware program like Ad-Aware, you
should ALWAYS choose the "Quarantine" ( Avast calls it
"move to chest" ) option the 1st time; after some time has
passed, like around 2 weeks, then you can go back and
"Delete" IF the performance of your computer has not
  changed for the worse .

Ok, thank you very much, so i haven’t deleted some fundamental files???
