but I still have an AVAST file in my program files on my c drive and its full of stuff. How do I get this off - it is out of my “add/remove programs”.
Looks like the uninstall failed, check to see if you have any avast processes running.
What avast processes are running in Task Manager, they begin with ash or asw, see image ?
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.

- Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that (as you mentioned) start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot. If step 1 failed it may be necessary to run this from safe mode, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
Can I ask why you wanted to uninstall avast ?
