Help it says my firewall is off and I can't get it turned on

Please help. I don’t understand computers but it says my firewall is off and I have tried everything to turn it on!

Repair Avast:

1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
2. Click on ‘Repair’.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.
