Help....lol...

For the last couple of days when my Avast! goes to update my virus data base, I get an error message that says “not enough storage to process this command”…what is going on and how do I fix this…feeling very worried about no virus protection…

What version of avast are you actually using, you have posted in the avast 4 Server Edition forum and I suspect you aren’t using this version.

What avast version are you using avast 4.8.1368 or 5.0.462 ?

What is your Operating System ?

How much RAM is on your system ?

I am really dumb when it comes to computers…I am not sure what ram is or how I found out how much I have…I am using Avast 4.8 home edition (free), I did notice that when I went to the info about Avast the box popped up with the following highlighted:
cannot obtain information, VPS file was destroyed
Never noticed that before and then when I went back again to the window that was gone and then it said about not enough storage…so I don’t know what is going on…
If I am posting in wrong section, I am sorry, please tell me where to go…wait…that didn’t sound right…

Forgot to add that I am using Windows XP

To see your RAM size, right click My Computer then click Properties. A dialog box will appear, read the last 5 lines 'til you locate the size of RAM (e.g 512 MB of RAM).

Moreover, check your local disk’s space.

Belated welcome to the forums.

Right click on the avast icon in the system tray (left of the clock) select about avast, and give the full version number, like I did in the example, 4.8.1368, if you haven’t got that you haven’t got the latest version.

If that is the case I would suggest that you download avast version 5.0 and install that over avast 4.8 (or you can do a clean reinstall) rather than chase issues on what is a updated/superseded version, since you have XP that update is possible.

Download the latest version of avast, 5.0.462 http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear5.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for both 4.8 and 5.0).

    1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 4.8 if previously installed and then for 5.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

Don’t worry about starting again in another forum or we lose what information you gave and the advice we gave, if the moderators notice they may move the complete topic into the avast! Free/Pro/Suite forum.

I did the right click on avast and it came up 4.8…but with the different messages in the box in about avast! I figured some how it became corrupted…so I did down load the 5.0.462 version…
I did a computer scan after downloading & rebooting also did an update of virus definitions and was able to…guess somehow my system got messed up…
Thank you all for your help… ;D

No problem, glad I could help.
