HELP lost all google chrome settings

I lost absolutely ALL google chrome settings by updating avast

Any ideas?

I updated avast free. Afterwards i looked at the reccomends option. When chrome came up it went to an avast reccomendation tab with a message up top saying chrome didnt shut down (i had shut it down normally before the update). when i hit restore, it was as though avast had installed a brand new google chrome. no bookmarks not tabs, no gmail id, no NOTHING!!!

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET GOOGLE CHROME BACK FROM AN AVAST UPDATE?

makes you want to just cry. can’t get any worse.

I had the exact same thing happen to me about a month ago. I have no idea how it happened other than an Avast update and then Chrome crashed. I had to set up everything from scratch. And I am always very very careful to make sure Google Chrome is not checked in any Avast update. I already use Chrome.

I didn’t expect it to affect google chrome, and I didn’t see a google chrome option on the update.

I was hoping I’d find some help here.

It turns out that it lied and all was still there but avast must have managed to start chrome without using its normal directory would be my guess.

when i shut chrome down and restarted it normally, it all came back, and luckily i didnt change or save anything to worsen matters

lost a day over it, but no permanent damage

Wow! That’s a good outcome.

For future reference: Whenever changing a version of avast! to a higher build number, always do what is called a clean install. If paid, ensure you have your license handy and a copy saved somewhere safe, as you will need it later to continue with it.

Upgrading usually works just fine when moving within one build version, but not to a completely new one.
