aavmker4.sys is a file that belongs to avast!
Thanks but i had already seen this page and bad solution for me…
i had this problem as well.
well ok this is what happened.
i got an automatic update and rebooted.
after the boot (approximently 20 seconds) windows xp home edition stops running and puts a message up that says page error in non-page sector or something like that , then it does a memory dump and reboots looks good but can’t click on anything nor does the windows menu button work also the keys don’t work. but the mouse is capable except for clicking.
eventually i booted in safe mode , searched for the the file found 5 i believe and deleted them all. now the virus protection may still work but i am not about to turn it back on right away. but the quick scanner (individual files) seems to work.
thats what i did hope it helps.
You’re not suppose to do that… it’s an avast necessary file.
Can’t you repair your installation? Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
If you search the board for Aavmker4.sys, won’t you find the solution?
well,
i did go back to the site and redownloaded the program and it only installed the parts that were missing.
so i would assume that after you get rid of the errored parts it does work.
but you still have to reboot with f8 in safe mode and either disable the program or delete the bad files. then redownload or i would assume that your fix would work if i had found it first.
