I ve been using avast for almost a year now, and it had been ok till today.
Usually when I log in, the blue “a ball” started to roll, so i know that avast is running, but today, when I start it, it does not run instantly. It takes about 4 minutes before it start to roll. The first three minutes, there is a red mark on the ball, and when i click it, this message appear “AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error”.
I have try restarting, repairing, enabling automatic start for remote procedure call (RPC), reinstalling, but none of them seems working.
Maybe you have disabled avast startup with third-part program, which is capable to do this like jv16 power tools or windows startup inspector recently? Or some kind of registry editor? ???
Did you change your firewall? Or install any software (patch/update) recently? Specially, antivirus, firewall?
RPC error is generally related to other antivirus present or, at least, firewall blocking. Anyway, RPC error is most likely correct by this procedure:
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the pop up window (Repair).
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
Also, take a look into Administrative Tools > Services
and see how the four avast services are set to start (automatically or manual).
About RPC, please, don’t touch this service, you could ruin your system. RPC must be running automatically or you won’t ‘run’ even Windows :-[
i have done nothing, it suddenly changed. everything is ok the last time i loged out, but when i loged in again it just can’t start, and it happens since then.
I have tried those steps before. It has been 4 hours now. still can not directly run. is it possible, something has happened outside avast? like virus?
Most probably not…
I think it’s a firewall issue. Which one do you use?
Can you try to repair your installation through Control Panel (staying connected to the Internet while repairing) and boot again?
Does the error continue?
when avast jammed, i can not open windows for almost everthing, except that my computer> manage. i dont get it, when it says there is a problem with rpc, the rpc status is already started, but the rpc locator has not. Does the rpc locator suppose to have started?
Technical, as far as I’m aware blackviper is no more, I heard something about this a while ago (can’t remember where), but your link is blank and going to the domain root tells a story.
If it has gone we have lost a great resource, some time ago I actually saved the web page for XP, but it may be dated now.
