Help Needed From U guys

Downloaded the avast Home Edition 4.5.
Problem: unable to run iAVS update.
Could it be the SMTP settings?
Error message:
“Information about current update:
Last encountered error: Cannot connect to download11.avast.com (unknown:80).”

Check your firewall settings.

SMTP = Simple Mail Transfer Protocol and has nothing to do with updating.

Hi. I’m having the same problem, but it just cropped up recently, and on just one of two PCs using avast. Have you learned of possible causes? If so, I’d appreciate learning what you know. Thanks. Ed Stevens

Have you checked your firewall settings, it may be blocking the Update.

  1. Try a manual update and watch for your firewall asking if avast.setup has permission to connect, the answer should be yes.

  2. If it doesn’t ask and you are still not able to update, check your firewall’s blocked applications/programs list. If avast.setup is on that list delete it and repeat 1. above.
