Yesterday my PC restarted itself for the first time. I was watching a clip with BS Player, screen became messed up, I couldn’t end any process or even go to the task manager. I pressed Ctrl+Alt+Del a couple of times with no success and after a while my PC restarted itself.
When it got back into Windows (XP) it made a file “Mini100609-01.dmp” in “C:\Windows\Minidump” folder and added this to my startup:
HKLM:Run [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
What should I do? How can this dmp file be reviewed? I’m 99,99% sure that I’m not infected, I think it has to be some program error with audio or something…
Not that this is much help, but I have been having this problem for some time time now and have a folder full of minidump files in Windows folder. I have sent one off to Avast for them to look at with instructions found in the support centre tab on the website page. SApmebody will probably get back with better instructions than this as I am still learning how to use the product so I will look out for what answers you get doo. Good luck
Just seen your reply to Bellzemos, could I be cheeky and ask if I could send you one of my minidumps as you seem to know what to do. Could you please also instruct how to go about it.
I can “only” say what caused the bsod to occur and “possibly” the reason- i’m “not sure” whether I can come to know about the reason. I don’t know whether I can give the fix or not.
THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER_M (100000ea)
The device driver is spinning in an infinite loop, most likely waiting for hardware to become idle. This usually indicates problem with the hardware itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly.
nmb, could you please look into some of my little brother’s minidump files please? He’s having serious issues with BSODs on his PC all the time and he can’t figure out what is wrong (software, hardware,…).
the bsods were caused by aswMon2.SYS , aswSP.SYS, which is avast system files. ntoskrnl.exe , winlogon.exe etc… i checked only four of the 60 dmp files you sent to me.
there might be many reasons for bsods.
you can upload them to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming you cant see the files you uploaded. so just upload it.
guide: you can open a folder on your system(windows explorer), type the above address and just drag the rar file in to the ftp site.
By the way, sometimes when my borther’s PC starts, the Avast ball can’t activate (0 providers running) and it eats the CPU (99%), until the shutdown. Sometimes (like after 20 minutes of use) the PC reboots all by himself. I wonder if it’s a hardware or a software error…
