I have a Win 32: Agent-zps (trj) virus. I have tried to delete it but it keeps coming back. I also find that Avast can not scan some of my folders, 32 of them to be exact! I have read through the post but I am totally out of my depth with what has been advised. Can anyone put it in plain language for an idiot what I can do to rid my self of this pest?
Thanks in anticipation.
First - Deletion isn’t really a good first option (you have none left), ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.
What is the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections.
Have you checked the List of topics in the Viruses and Worms form as there has been a rash of topic about Win32:Agent-zps (trj) ?
I have this too and as a novice most of this is over my head, hopefully someone will find this is a false positive
Go download and install HijackThis, then return here with your HJT scan log so we can determine this situation.

I suggest:
- Disable System Restore and reenable it after step 3.
- Clean your temporary files.
- Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
- Use SUPERantispyware, MBAM or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than.
- Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
- Make a HijackThis log to post here or, better, submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
- Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster or Windows Advanced Care.
- Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.
My friends computer was full of virus’s and we could not put it in safety mode to work on it. I was able to get on line and download the free avast antivirus but when instead of the screen which promopts you to install the screen went blue and this message appears:
STOP: coooo (Unable to locate component) This application has failed to start because BASEPTM32 was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
We cannot get past this blue screen to manipulate anything, I am not computer savvy enough to deal with this one and I don’t even know if AVAST is the application the screen is talking about! can someone PLEASE PLEASE help me! The computer is a DELL vostro 200 with XP operating system. PS: How do u start a new post??? I can’t even figure that out. I went to the help menu also but it didn’t help me
Thanks!
Bunny
Did you follow the steps I’ve posted just above? ???
I will and let you know asap if I can follow your steps (frankly is was frantic when I posted this) but so far nothing seems to work to get out of the blue screen. I will let you know what happens. I really appreciate your help and I hope you had a great 4th.
