I do not follow what you mean… can you rephrase?
Are you talking about timeouts while posting in the forum?
:)yes Tech that is what I was talking about, sorry I should have been alittle more clear on that. Before in the posts you mentioned about FlashGet being a plugin for FireFox and that you use it with LeechGet. How can is there a way for me to find out what Download manager I have or if I even have one? I run Windows XP Home. also is any of this Freeware?
If you didn’t install one, you’re not using one 8)
If you Google or search download sites as www.download.com for the keyword Download Manager you’ll find some.
If you click ‘Links’ in my signature too.
I recommend Free Download Manager (http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/)
Tech, do you suggest the Free download manager 1.9? and actually you know what? I don’t even know what a download manager is would you be able to help me with this and help me set it up too? you can email me if it would be easier than posting messages
A download manager is a program that manages how to download a file: where to save it, how fast is should be downloaded, stop/start again operations, etc. If you use a dial-up, you must have one. If you download big files, you must have one.
If not, well, you can live without one 8)
hey guys help please!!! I just did a through scan of my PC, now i have on my screen that there are like 40 files with the results of “UNABLE TO SCAN” what is that all about? it doesn’t say why they can’t be scanned and they don’t have anything listed under operations :o
Many programs (usually security based ones) password protect their files for legitimate reasons such as AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy, there are others (and avast doesn’t know the password or have any way of using it even if it did know it).
When you run scans with the above programs and you delete harmful entries that they detect, a copy is kept (in quarantine/restore/backup) in case you need to reverse what you did. These are usually password protected, you should do some housekeeping and delete old backup/recovery/quarantine entries (older than two weeks or so), this will reduce the numbers of files that can’t be scanned.
By examining 1) the reason given by avast! for not being able to scan the files, 2) the location of the files, you can get an idea of what program they relate to. You may need to expand the column headings to see all the text.
Files that can’t be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.
okay that kinda helps, most of then are password protected but the first two say that the system couldn’t open the device or file specified. What action do I take with everything that is listed? the only options listed are delete, move, chest and scan, the list is still opened on my screen do, i take action on these files first or just simply select close?
You need do nothing (see house keeping in my previous post), all avast is doing is letting you know it couldn’t scan a file/s, not that they are harmfull/suspicious, just can’t be scanned.
