So our house was burglarized the other night and the scumbags made off with the wife’s Nexus 10 I bought her for Christmas. I’ve already gone and changed all her Google related passwords & security validations.
The tablet was setup to lock after inactivity and a 6-digit pin is required to gain access.
Avast! Free Mobile Security was installed with the latest update, however the Nexus was not “rooted”.
Although Avast! Free Mobile Security was installed & configured an online Avast! account was never established and linked to the device.
I’m not completely sure what security options were set in the Avast! application. I believe it was running in stealth mode.
So what are the chances this Nexus can be factory “reset”? How hard will it be for the thief to break into it knowing the above factors?
if the device can send/receive SMS you still have a chance to contact it. otherwise no wipe or tracking is possible.

well - they certainly won’t be able to access the data in the internal memory. but they might just open the recovery mode and hard reset the device.
I hope the display already had scratches so they won’t get a too high resale value
No SMS in a Nexus 10 unfortunately. It does have WiFi & GPS though. I had already figured there was no way to contact the device remotely… I was just hoping that the Avast! anti-theft I installed makes a factory reset as difficult as possible! The device was purchased in November as a Christmas present and it was still in like new condition with no scratches on the display at all. Maybe the loser who took it will try to pawn it…
My Google Nexus 10 was stolen and I had the Avast! free version of their mobile security App installed. Since the Nexus 10 has no SMS capability I’m unable to use many of the anti-theft features. What I want to know is how hard will it be for the thief to perform a factory reset with this application installed? The Nexus 10 was pin protected for login. I thought I had read that the Avast pin would be required to perform a factory reset of the device, is this true or not? I can’t find any data on Avast mobile security app when loaded on tablet devices, only smart phones and the Avast support folks won’t even talk to me because they don’t support the free version.
