Help please: computer freezes forever after avast instalation

Hi, I installed Last Free Avast antivirus, ran scan, avast encourred some viruses, I deleted viruses, then scan stopped with a message saying a virus is active and I have to reboot. I allow to reboot and scan goes on in a blue background screen. Then it automatically reboot and freezes.

I tried to reboot about 20 times.

Each time, the system loads all the icons, seems ok but freezes BEFORE I CAN DO ANYTHING. Even ctrl-alt-del wouldn’t help at all. Even the desktop icons nor taskbar icons failed to show up.

This also happen in safe mode !!!

Any suggestion to avoid a format C: ???

Thankyou very much

Did you happen to have any other antivirus alongside avast?

Yes !

ESET - NOD32 with old database.

It is not good to run two or more antiviruses alongside for this may cause system instability and conflicts.

Please decide on what to keep avast or NOD32? I’ll post a step on how to fix this issue after knowing your choice on what to keep.

Avast is my choice.

Writing in this forum gave me luck… I finally managed to load the windows safe mode without freezing (it actually fails many times before). I ran ASWCLEAR, and then CCLEAR to first remove avast. Then I reboot in normal mode (virus remains) and removed ESET NOD32. I reboot and installed newly Avast. It is now running the boot time Avast scan.

I thing it will encounter this virus and solve the problem.

It would be very useful to add a check during avast installation for others antivirus previously installed and show an alert to newbies (like me) in case instability may happen. Anyway, I am happy with Avast.

Many thanks for your appreciated help.

Maybe you have already done this, but it is recomended to run the NOD32 uninstall tool, found here at nr.21 to remove all leftovers

I thing it will encounter this virus and solve the problem.

If you have a virus also try Malwarebytes http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

ooh… the virus remains !!!

I had to use the Malwarebytes. It found 16 infected files. Delete+reboot=ok.

Thankyou very much to L’arc and Pondus
