Ok, I’ve had this problem for a few days now; when I try to use the internet I get a message saying “the proxy server is refusing connections”–other browsers do not work as well. I had a friend reset my proxy cache or something? I’m sorry, I know barely anything about computers…but that didn’t work. I ran avast 5 to see if anything was wrong and nothing turned up. A few days before, though, around the time the problem started there was a virus Avast detected–Win32:Cycbot-C[Trj] but I moved it to the virus chest…
I know that there is something wrong with my laptop and not the internet connection or my school’s server because everyone else has no problems. Also, I figured something out–if I type in an ‘s’ after ‘http’ in a site’s address bar I can usually access that site. But its annoying and tedious. Does anyone know what’s wrong or how to fix this?
What version of Avast did you install? 5.0.677 is the latest version.

Check your computer for malware with Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM).
· Download freehttp://www.malwarebytes.org/ (blue button) for an on-demand scanner.
· Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
· After install, click update so you have latest database before scanning.
· Under Settings:
o General: Automatically Save File After Scan Completes is checked off
o Scanner Settings: Check all boxes
o Updater: Download and install update if available is checked off
· Once the program has loaded, select “Perform FULL Scan”, then click Scan.
· The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
· When the disinfection scan is complete, a log will appear in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note).
· Click the “remove selected” button to quarantine anything found. You will find the infection details under the Quarantine tab.
· The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
· Copy & Paste the entire report in your next reply.
In the meantime, keep the items in your Avast Virus Chest in there and do NOT delete it. Thank you.
I also recommend that you remove any stored passwords and sensitive data on your machine. If you are connected to a network, please disconnect from the network.
Follow the directions for obtaining the OTL logs. Post the two (2) OTL logs as an attachment (Additional Options > Attach > Browse (the logs will be on your desktop > Post). Please do not make any further changes to your machine once you have provided the logs. Limit your use of the computer in the meantime, but keep your Avast definitions up to date.
Once your logs (MBAM and OTL) are posted, I am going to refer you to our Certified Malware expert, named Essexboy. He will also review your logs and give you further instructions, however he comes on the forum late UK time. He will respond to you in this thread, so remember to check this thread daily. I will continue to provide assistance in the meantime, then remain in the background while he works with you.
