HELP PLEASE...internet defender infection

My teenager has downloaded something and now has internet defender stuck on his laptop. I can’t get rid of this thing!!

hi, don’t panic, I’ll pm an expert that will help you along

until he pops in, try that:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

download the free version install it, update it, and then run a quickscan (no need to run a full scan). If anything is found, follow the instructions for removal.

Thanks Logos…I tried that along with some manual instructions I found to remove it and it reappears upon reboot. I’ve even tried deleting it via the search function by pulling up the files created within the last week. It was hiding in my documents along with a lot of other files in other folders. But when I logged back in…it popped right back up. I’ve been trying to remove it now since last night.

okay so the only way is to wait for Essexboy, the expert I was talking about, to come here. It’s a bit late now in Britain so that might be tomorrow ;)… but don’t worry, he will get you out of this.

just found that, you can trust the instructions on this site:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-internet-defender

edit: so apparently MBAM (malwarebyte) can get you rid of that, but in safemode (+networking option to download it and update it)

I understand Essexboy, our malware expert is going to help you. He will also want an OTL log to analyze to see what is going on with your machine.

Check the information on the first post of this thread under Virus/Worms for you to check your machine for malware: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0.

Follow the directions for obtaining the OTL logs (save them as ANSI and not Unicode). When the OTL scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. Post the two (2) OTL log as an attachment (Additional Options > Attach > Browse (the logs will be on your desktop > Post).

Essexboy usually comes on the forum late UK time. The OTL log will provide him with information he needs to assist you. Once you perform the OTL scan, please do not make any additional changes to your machine until Essexboy gives you instructions. Thank you. Let us know if you have any questions.
