I have Vista Home Basic SP2 with latest updates. Since lately I can’t start WMP 11. I click on a file associated with it - nothing; I try to open it through Windows main menu - nothing; I try to open files on-line in Firefox (the plug-in is properly installed) - I can here sound but can’t see any visual effects and controls and so on.
I don’t know what has happened. I didn’t use WMP for a long time but some weeks ago everything was all right.

My (damaged) WMP has version 11.0.6002.18111 and it’s in Russian. I looked through the page you had posted but didn’t find a direct link to download WMP 11 for Vista.
Click Start, click Accessories, the right click on Command Prompt and choose “run as administrator”, then type regsvr32 jscript.dll, and then hit enter.
Type regsvr32 vbscript.dll then hit enter.
Now type exit and hit enter. Now try media player and it should work.
Based on what Bob had you do for some reason or other the visual basic script dll vbscript.dll file wasn’t registered so visual basic wouldn’t be available for WMP.
The regsrv32 function registers the dll so that windows registry recognises it and allows it to be available for WMPs use.
Thanks David for pitching in.
This appears to be a common problem. It’s happened to me on more than one occasion.
I’m glad the fix worked for you George.
