Help please with iexplore.exe Application Error

A friend of mine is having trouble accessing one of his password web sites he needs to get into with the following message

The instruction at Ox77279a48" referenced memory at 0x01b4335c The memory could not be “read” click on OK to terminate program

Some times it terminates off the internet altogether.
I did a boot check with Avast Antivirus and it found one virus which was deleted. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Which is your operational system? Probably XP…
Which was the infected file name and path?
Does this happen with other browsers (like Firefox)? Can you access the sites?

It is my neighbour opposite that is having the problem. He does have XP and he can access the site, it is only when he puts his password in he gets that message, or the internet closes down.
