I am running Windows XP Home Edition with Avast HE. The virus scan identifies a virus: Win32:Exdl [Adw] I did turn off the System restore before running the scan.
When the virus is announced it tells me to “move to chest” but when I attempt to do that the process does not complete. So I am left with the virus. Is there a solution for this?
I will appreciate any help. I am a brand new beginner at this.

There is a provision for doing a scan on boot up which can remove a file BEFORE it becomes active. Files that are active (running in the back ground) cannot be removed; moved; or otherwise changed until they are in stopped mode.
