Help please

I reformatted my pc a while back and didnt add all the games etc. that I previously had on it. This week when I tried to add the games for my grandkids Avast kicked in and said that they contained viruses. I try clicking send to chest and then the game wont finish downloading, says run-time error ‘53’ File not found Addon2VB.DLL. This is E-games cds and I have used them for years and had Avast during that time. Can anyone tell me what to do to resolve this problem. I clicked move to chest and emailed it to Avast.
Thanks,
Wanda

What is the infected file names location e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections.

If as you say you couldn’t download it the location is likely to be a URL, when posting a URL make sure it isn’t active to avoid accidental exposure, e.g. http[break]://www[break].suspectsite.com\suspectgame\suspectfile.exe, etc.

You could pause the web shield that would allow you to download, but the standard shield should alert instead. Ignore, no action. Create a folder called suspect, e.g. c:\suspect and add that to the avast Exclusions Lists.
Standard Shield, Customize, Advanced, Add and
Program Settings, Exclusions

Pause the standard shield and move the file into this location, now you can check (upload) the detection at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner and report the findings here.

I dont really understand what you mean for me to do. I can get around my pc pretty good but not an expert and have never had problems like this before.
This is the info in the Avast chest:

Name-tdad.dll Original location- C:\Windows Virus-Win32:Adware-gen[adw]

I went to Virus Total and used it to scan the cd and it says its not a virus but adware and had this from Sunbelt:

“Sunbelt info: Conducent/Timesink is not only found in "free" adware. Strategic partners in the Conducent Affiliate Network include CD-Rom distributors as well as online distributors. For instance, buyers of off-the-shelf software by eGames www.egames.com have been unpleasantly surprised to find Conducent/Timesink installed along with their purchases.”

I tried stopping Avast while I added the game but as soon as I turn it back on it detects the “virus” and when I click no action it doesnt do anything. If I click move to chest the game wont finish downloading… I’m ready to just throw the game away and say forget it.

Thanks again,
Wanda

avast will try its best to protect you from doing anything with what it sees as an infected file, I’m trying to get you round those restrictions whilst still remaining secure. That wouldn’t include installing it, just confirming the detection.

Basically I’m trying to allow you do download it (pausing the web shield to complete the download and enable), so that you can confirm the detection is good or otherwise.

Put it in a suspect folder that has been excluded from avast scans so it doesn’t alert.
You would need to pause the standard shield to be able to move the file to the c:\suspect folder and .
Once in the suspect folder you can upload it to VT for confirmation. Copy and paste the details of the VT scan.

No action does what is says on the tin, takes no action, doesn’t delete or move the file just kills the alert process, but it won’t allow you to execute an infected file. Unless as I mentioned earlier exclude the file from scans and I wouldn’t do that to run the game until I was totally certain the detection wasn’t good (VT results).

The fact that it is adware (what avast reported) would be confirmed by VT if other scanners also detect it as such. In which case I personally wouldn’t install it, adware is still unwanted and isn’t benign.
