Help please...

I downloaded Avast today after a couple months of having no anti-virus protection. I’ve used Avast before so I’m fairly familiar with the program. Anyway, after installing I’ve been getting fairly constant “Malicious URL blocked” reports. Sometimes 8 or 9 at a time. It’s pretty clear that I’ve got malware stored on here somewhere but a few scans I can’t seem to get rid of them. I’ve followed the instructions in the stickied thread about removing malware and I’m still getting the notifications so I figured this was the next appropriate step…

I apologize in advance for any multi-posts. Not trying to break any rules, just trying to get all of the appropriate attachments asked for…

So first is a screen shot of the notifications. Not sure why you need it but people seem to ask for it in some of the other related threads I looked at. I’ll get to the actual “procedure” attachments in the next post since the screenshot is fairly large…

Ok, so onto the requested procedure…

I ran MBAM. It got and removed a couple infected files but the notifications continued after that. The requested logs are attached.
After that I ran OTL. It didn’t say anything about running the “Run Fix” option, so I didn’t. Those requested logs are also attached.
After that I ran aswMBR. Again, it didn’t say anything about doing the “Fix MBR” option so I didn’t. Again, those logs are attached.

Any help in getting my system clean is greatly appreciated. Thank you

removal specialists are notified. it may take hours before one arrive so be patient

Hi looking at the URL that Avast blocked, if you have used your credit card online I would recommend that you inform your credit card supplier that the number may be compromised

Please copy and paste its contents on your next reply.

Ok, ran TDSSKiller, rebooted and grabbed the log…

Seemed like it grabbed a lot of stuff. I’m trying to surf around a bit to give the malware a chance to go off but I don’t seem to be getting anymore notifications based on the little bit that I’ve been on. Either way I’d like to be thorough.

Could you attach the log located at C:\TDSSKiller date time please

Sure thing. I thought that log was a little too short to be of any interest lol

Could you re-run TDSSKiller with the same parameters
When this element appears select delete :

\Device\Harddisk0\DR0 ( TDSS File System )

Avast will alert as the files are moved

Once done let me know of any outstanding problems

Ok, thank you for the assistance :). I’ll report any further issues.

Once you are happy let me know and I will remove my tools

Alright, been a couple days without any hiccups. Feel free to remove your tools.

Thanks again for the help

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run OTL
[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

:Commands [resethosts] [emptytemp] [Reboot]

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
[*]Click Start.
[*]Open My Computer.
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[
]Click OK.

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/7729/mbamicontw5.gif
Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link

If you use on-line banking then as an added layer of protection install Trusteer Rapport

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. To keep your operating system up to date visit
[*]Microsoft Windows Update
