HELP PLEASE!

While I was using my computer, Out of nowhere I was notified by Avast that I have a “privacy issue”, saying “ my IP address is visible.”

I am just wondering if I should take this serious, or is it just an ad? I have asked some friends and they have said that this is probably just an ad. So, please what do you think?

Thank you in advance!!

Is there a "resolve button" ? what happens if you click it ? taken to a buy VPN or something ?

Yes, when I clicked on the pop-up, they showed me a “resolve all button “ because they were other other problems mentioned (the picture below). And, when I clicked on it , I was asked to buy a VPN-secureline subscription.

Personally I hate these Ads purporting to be security warnings/messages.

Most people will be in the same boat unless they are using a VPN and some of those people also get this message as Avast is not looking for another VPN.

Avast is a guest on my systems and in that privileged position it is easy for them to see my IP (hell they use it to connect to avast, program/VPS updates, etc.). It would be a different matter if they were an external source, but even then so they know my IP (its needed to pull down content I’m viewing).

If someone gets my IP what the hell are they going to do with it, they then have to get past my defences, not to mention this is a variable IP address and not a fixed one.

I expect Avast to protect me from said external sources/attacks. That’s why I installed it and why I hate this kind of scareware, give me a headache and sell me an aspirin. That’s why I ignore such ads.

Yes, that is exactly what I though, even if someone got my IP address, he has to go through my other defenses, I am using more than just one AV.

When I saw that pop-up, I didn’t care at first, I just closed the window and continued working. But I was like what if it is real, I need to know, that is why I came here to ask if I was the only one or there are other people who got this kind of pop-up. Because to me it looked like an ad.

And thank you!!

You’re welcome.

Why Using Multiple Antivirus Programs is a Bad Idea

Why it isn’t a good idea to run multiple full antivirus products at the same time

I read this comment differently, in the same way my systems have more than just one AV to protect me. But that doesn’t necessarily mean using multiple AVs, so needs clarification.

Thank you!

I am using two anti-viruses because last time even though i was using an AV, I lost al my data on my computer including my work files.

But thank you, I will remove one. I’ll stick with Avast then.

So, you guys all think that pop-up was just an ad?

There is something called backup

You have a gmail account, that mean you also have free online backup at Google drive https://www.google.com/drive/

and Google photos https://www.google.com/photos/

Google photos https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Photos

Yepp, this forum is full of complaints if you search

You can turn it off, see the attachment.

But it was clearly Avasts own commercials, as far as I could see…

That won’t help yucefrn as he is using Avast Free and these options are only available in the paid product.

Oki,didn’t know any of that …
