Help!!! Possible virus

Im really confused here. If anyone could give me some info on my little problem it would be greatly appreciated. I believe I have a virus, and yet avast doesnt pick it up. I have run spybot and avast to cover all my bases, yet my computer runs really slow. it locks up every 30 seconds and takes forever to boot up. the following is my system config:

Windows XP professional
Intel Celeron D 3.06 GIG
1 Gig of Ram
Avast Version 4.7.844

Once again If anyone has advice please contact me! Im getting ready to reformat my drive…something I really dont wanna do. So if anyone knows a cure to speed up my sluggish system, please let me know.

Ignore any 023 reference to avast processes, this is a hiccup in the HJT 1.99.1 (especially missing file entry for avast), if you need any help with any of the analysis let us know.

Also if you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode Ewido anti-spyware and Ad-Aware

 You need more than Avast & Spybot to cover your 
 computer security bases. I would defer using "HijackThis"
 program; their logs are best "read" by Experts on
 antiSPYWARE forums, like the ones Spybot has at :
 http://forums.spybot.info .
 Would recommend you start with ewido anti-spyware
 suggested by DavidR; this good & FREE program 
"specializes" in detecting & removing "things" that Avast
 and Spybot are not that good at, namely trojans ( which
 you probably have ), worms, keyloggers, generic dialers,
 etc .
 And while you are at it, read the info on good & FREE
