It appears that your avast virus definition files are out of date. The latest version is 0611-0. Do you have updates set to manual? If so, please try to do a manual update.
Good catch Charley, I didn’t notice the prehistoric VPS version.
I had scan wit avast ver. 0356-5, but can't detected by avast.
Based on this, I would also suspect that janu’s version of avast may well be very out of date too.
@ janu
What version of avast are you using ?
The latest version of avast 4 Home is 4.6.763, if you haven’t update the program for some time I suggest that you download the latest version and save it to a folder on your HDD so you can find it again. Uninstall avast, reboot and install the latest version that you downloaded.
If you are not running XP Home SP2 then you are also vulnerable to multiple exploits that have been patched by MS, so a visit to windows update would be a priority. Updating to SP2 would also allow you to get the latest updates for IE6 SP2, closing more security holes. It is essential to keep your OS and security programs up to date.
update your vps and clean it using boot scan, if you got the brontok[a].14.html on you folder "my document\my picture" belive me that is brontok new version.
and your problem will solve using vps 06110
after finish the boot scan please try to run your regedit.exe :
Based on the information not only is your VPS out of date but it is about 3 years out of date I think that VPS was published back in 2003. Your first priority should be to patch MS Windows if you have not done so. Then update to the latest version to avast! and update VPS. With a VPS that old doing a scan is pointless. If for some reason you cannot get the VPS file update with avast! here is the link (first link) to download the latest. Click on the link and the download should begin automatically. Also you may want to download the latest version of avast. Since I do not know what language you speak I have given you the link where you choose what Language version you would like to download (link 2).
The chances are if as has been mentioned the VPS is so old his version of avast is likely to be as old and out of date. That may stop him applying the new VPS updates, Janu would first need to update his version of avast.
His plea “Help me please…” obviously isn’t that urgent as we haven’t had a response since his initial post a week ago. I guess we will have to wait for him to get back to us.
must probably his pc already crashed because of the virus that’s why he wasn’t able to reply to the forum.
anyway, i also have the same virus in our office pc. Avast could detect it but when i make a virus scan it doesn’t remove the the virus. most probably because we only have 4.6.603 version of avast and vps 0608-0 which i believe is very outdated.
I can’t update avast because we don’t have an internet connection in the office. Can I download the latest versions here in my home pc and transfer it to our office pc???
tnx for sharing your knowledge, guys.
I removed the brontok-a trojan on our office computers using another anti-virus program (sophos) which i downloaded. I’m not sure if the virus has been eliminated completely, because when I open the computer, a window pops-up saying it couldn’t find the file explorasi.exe??? I remember it was already deleted by the anti-virus since it was infected by the brontok trojan. And when i try to run regedit, it say’s that the administrator disabled regedit. Though i used sophos to removed the trojan, i’m still using avast for the computers.
could u pls make some suggestions how could i access the regedit.
