Hi…I have a PC with a damaged OS infected with a virus. On boot I get the message “NTFSD Missing - Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart” (just keeps saying that) I found a Windows 2000 disk in the pc so I think maybe someone tried to repair the OS with a Windows 2000 disk however it originally had XP on it and Im not sure if the install/repair was completed or successful.
Do you think there is anything we can do to repair the OS, remove the virus and recover the data off this PC?

Please download DDS and save it to your Desktop from here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/dds/dl/104/
Double click to run the tool, click the Start button.
- When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
1. DDS.txt
2. Attach.txt
Save both reports to your desktop. DDS.txt and Attach.txt attach back to topic.

Unfortunately I cannot find the XP Pro disk anywhere - I have the serial but no disk…I dont know the name of the Malware but I remember it being polluted with popups before it ultimately stopped booting up.

Get a XP cd from a site like EBay.
And check if that system/pc has a recovery option.
Many “brand” pc’s have it.
