HELP: Scanning Outgoing emails without me sending any mails

I am using Avast Home edition and I find the internet mail is scanning Outgoing emails without me sending any mail and the scanned count is rising every second.

My email program is not running, so I am wondering what are these outgoing mails which are getting scanned. Is this a virus? If so how come Avast did not detect it?

Kisan

You appear to have an undetected trojan spambot on your system.

If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode.

  1. If using winXP AVG anti-spyware (formerly Ewido). Or SUPERantispyware Or Spyware Terminator. Or a-Squared free if using win98/ME.
  2. Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition
  3. Spybot Search and Destroy

Thanks David for a fast reply I will download one of the programs and run it.

Your welcome, I would suggest in the order listed, if having tried one, no change try the next.

What is your operating system ?
What is your firewall ?

You might also want to check a program called TCPView to see what is connecting to the internet.

Or - HIJACKTHIS - Program & Tutorial - Also useful as a diagnostic tool - Download HiJackThis.zip HJT has now been sold to Trend Micro inc. but the 1.99.1 version should still be available here or at one of the download sites. - HJT Information HiJackThis Tutorial 1 or HiJackThis Tutorial 2

Ignore any 023 reference to avast processes, this is a hiccup in the HJT 1.99.1 (especially missing file entry for avast), if you need any help with any of the analysis let us know.

Post the contents of the hijackthis log here, use two posts if the contents won’t fit in one post.

Thanks a ton David.

Looks like your first suggestion worked.
I downloaded AVG anti-spyware (formerly Ewido) and in safe mode I ran it.
This cleaned up all and now I don’t see any outgoing mail in Avast Internet Mail.

I am so relieved.

No problem, glad I could help.

Welcome to the forums.

I know I didn’t mention it and the last thing on your mind when up to your A** in alligators is draining the swamp, but did you save a copy of the offending file ?

It could be sent to avast to improve detections.

Im having this same problem as well. Sending out thousands of emails.
