I’ve Firefox/Avast Home/ZoneAlarm/Norton SystemWorks working together on my Win XP SP2 laptop. For Firefox not working normally lately, I checked and un-installed ZoneAlarm and it works again. But My Avast! now would start up after booting as normal, but everytime I try to update its database or program by right-clicking its icon at Taskbar it would trigger the Microsoft Error Report and the icon is gone. Though I doubt it is stilling working behind as shown in the Taskbar Manager…? I was trying to uninstall it and re-install it again but when uninstalling the error message "An exception occurred while trying to run “C:\PROGRAM~1\ALWILS~1\Avast4\Setup\setiface.dll.RunSetup” pops up. Downloading a new copy to re-install, the Microsoft Error Report pops up right after clicking the Avast Setup File. I am now totally lost as I don’t know if now my PC is exposed to virus defenselessly… Please help.
Me again. I used the Avast External Control Program to successfully un-install the malfunctioning Avast in my PC. BUT, I would like to re-install it again now but everytime I click the newly downloaded Setup File, the MS Error Report pops up. Any advice to help me here?

If the Norton SystemWorks includes an AV element then you would need to uninstall system works and ensure all remnants are gone, reboot and do a custom install excluding the AV element. Then you could try the install of avast again.

There is another tool to try if the usual avast add remove programs doesn’t work, usually because of a failed install. Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here save it to a location on your HDD that you can find it later.
