Help! Win32 Malware.gen Infected

I scanned my computer with avast and it said I was infected with Win32Malware.gen it moved it to the chest but what do I do now?
I downloaded avast virus cleaner but it found nothing and I also disabled avast while this cleaner was doing it’s thing.
I am currently doing a boot sector scan and at this point it says :

File C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\GLBA3B.tmp\wise000.3bin Error 42146 {Installer archive is corrupted}

I am using my sons netbook to post this while my pc continues scanning.

What do I do after? I know the file that is infected with the malware was a game my son downloaded so its something that can be deleted.

I’m not very good with computers so please be patient and your help is very much appreciated : )

Thanks.

The warning just means that avast! can’t read the archive- I don’t think it’s anything to worry about.

I often get such warnings reading a clean system and just ignore them.

If you know the detected file is a game and not wanted, you can delete the file from the Chest (quarantine), although normally it’s best to leave detected files in the Chest for a month or so, just to be 100% sure they weren’t detected in error, which does happen from time to time, to all anti-virus programs.

Let the boot time scan finish.

If you want to double check, try one or more of the the usual free adware/spyware scanners.

Spybot Search & Destroy
SUPERAntiSpyware Free
a-Squared Free
Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware

I always recommend a scan for insecure software with Secunia, either online or installed.

Secunia Online Software Inspector (OSI)
Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI)

Thank you very much for your reply, your help is much appreciated : )
Before I left for work this morning I did a standard scan and avast did not pick up anything but it was unable to read numerous files. I’m going to assume since there were no viruses that is a good thing Lil
At this point I am going to download malwarebytes and see what that tells me and I will keep you posted.
Thanks again
