Help with 00000001.@ and 80000000.@

Hi i have been infected with this virus which is causing carnage to Internet explorer, shutting it down, restarting it and generally making it unusable. whenever IE is open Avast also goes nuts. My virus knowledge is poor, but my knowledge of general systems is pretty good.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Rich

Please attach your logs. (MBAM, OTL and aswMBR…!!)
Instructions: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

I have run through those programs. After Malwarebytes, it shut down the pc, on startup two warnings came up from windows telling me that a program could not start because it was infected.

I ran through the other two and the logs are all here.

Warnings still popping up and IE still not working. Also, when i go to some folders, they revert to a list view no matter how many times i select view large icons. Help!

Could you attach the main OTL log please

Thought i had attached that.

OTL log attached

[*]Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.

THEN

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

[*]Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
[*]Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

Wow, that was scary. After combofix, nothing would work at all. Reboot did cure the problem.

Logs are attached

How is the computer behaving now ?

Windows explorer and IE are acting normally, cant thank you enough. Really appreciate it.

Could you do a little searching around to check out for redirects and popups ;D

Not getting redirects any miore, but i have noticed on certain pages the Secure webpage warning pops up about 8 times in very rapid succession…

However i was not suffereing from redirects, i was simply suffering from IE crashing and restarting constantly every few seconds, and windows exporer not showing icons. Both those issues are fixed.

Ah that is because IE is set to a high security level

Go Control Panel > Internet options > Advanced
Select Restore Advanced Settings
And that should now be history

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run OTL
[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

:Commands [resethosts] [emptytemp] [Reboot]

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

Remove ComboFix

[*]Hold down the Windows key + R on your keyboard. This will display the Run dialogue box
[*]In the Run box, type in ComboFix /Uninstall (Notice the space between the “x” and “/”) then click OK

http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/Misc%20screen%20shots/CF_Uninstall-1.jpg

[]Follow the prompts on the screen
[
]A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that

[*]Go to control panel
[*]Select folder options (Appearance > Folder options in category view)
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[
]Click OK.

All done, Thanks

My pleasure ;D

Ok, i started to get redirects again, this time with Firefox. Avast has started to pop up with Malicious URL warnings and yep, internet explorer is constantly popping up with problems and closing pages. Damn.

Strangely i have run Malwarebytes and it showed up nothing.

Since i ran through all the problems i have downloaded nothing, gone on no suspicious sites…pretty much ebay and a few forums. So im not sure where i could have picked up another virus, unless its the original one still on the system.

Help

Could you post a fresh OTL log please. Are the redirects only in firefox ?

Download OTL to your Desktop

[*]Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/OTL_Main_Tutorial.gif

[*]Select All Users
[*]Under the Custom Scan box paste this in
netsvcs
%SYSTEMDRIVE%*.exe
/md5start
services.*
explorer.exe
winlogon.exe
Userinit.exe
svchost.exe
qmgr.dll
/md5stop
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\BITS /s
CREATERESTOREPOINT

[*]Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
[*]When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
[*]Post both logs

okkkkay…it would seem im not ok.

Bear in mind i have not used anything except email and even switched my browser to Google Chrome. I have started getting problems, the very same avast popups and redirects as before. However when i used Malwarebytes, nothing. I then checked with Trentd Housecall, Avast and Microsoft malicious software tool all done in safe mode without networking. Nothing.

I however downloaded Norman, ran it and guess what, it found 15 in the very same appdata folder as before ???

Attached is the log.

It would seem everything i did had no effect and my systeme remains compromised.

Help, i want rid of this damned thing for good!!.

Could you run the OTL scan please and also say whether it is only in firefox

Hi, was away for a couple of days, i have run the otl and posted the log. I have also posted the log from Norman to show what it found.

Thanks
