The following will implement some post-cleanup procedures:

Download DelFix by Xplode and save it to your desktop.

[*]Run the tool by right click on the

[*]Make sure that these ones are checked:

[]Remove disinfection tools
[]Purge system restore
[*]Reset system settings

[*]Push Run and wait until the tool completes his work.
All tools we used should be gone. Tool will create an report for you (C:[B]DelFix.txt)

The tool will also record healthy state of registry and make a backup using ERUNT program in %windir%\ERUNT\DelFix
Tool deletes old system restore points and create a fresh system restore point after cleaning.

So far looking good at least on my profile! I’m getting notifications to turn ADVAST back on which I will do. It’s also telling me to turn on Windows Defender and update definitions. Should I do that or uninstall it? Should I install any other Malware protection software?

You have Microsoft Security Essentials, it’s Antivirus softver. Windows Defender is not Antivirus but also may be turned.
I recommended to use Malwarebytes if you will.

Updated Microsoft Security Essentials, Updated Defender, Scanned with both, turned Avast back on, still have AdBlocker running. I think everything is working. Any other suggestions? Do you have any idea what may have caused this?

You probably downloaded some application.

I recommended to use MCShield if you will.
It will prevent infection by computer via USB flash drive, mobile phone or any other memory card.
And not only will prevent infection, but it will immediately clean flash drive, memory card or external HDD.
