Help with adding "My Safe" to the exceptions list.

Hey all,

After searching the forums for hours trying to find an answer on how to add a secure folder called “My Safe” to the list of the Standard Shield, I have had no success. I have a Toshiba Laptop with a fingerprint scanner, which uses a program called Protector Suite OL. It allows for a nifty little folder to be placed in My Documents called “My Safe.” I can unlock and lock the folder with a swipe of a finger. But, with the Standard Shield (I’ve narrowed it down to that) running, I cannot unlock the folder. If I pause the Shield then it opens right up. I know that there is something that I have to add to the list of things not to scan (or whatever) but I cannot, for the life of me >:(, find out what it is. I have tried adding C:\Documents and Settings*\My Documents\My Safe*.* and also C:\Program Files\Protector Suite QL*.* and the thing still doesn’t work. I have also tried using the “Show detailed info on performed action” option in the advanced settings tab for the Standard Shield and I can’t catch what the file is that’s being scanned when “My Safe” is being used. I know that several of you out there have had this problem, so please HELP ME!!! Thanks in advance for the help. And MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!

It is possibly not the contents that are the problem but the encryption/validation program not like being scanned, I don’t know if you found this topic, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=22900.msg189206#msg189206, which would appear to be similar.

I’ve read both of those posts, and there are listings of the problems, but no solutions. Any help would be great.

I haven’t read them in full, but didn’t the second one exclude a file outside the my safe, e.g. the file that validates the initial input, you need to identify that file and exclude that, so there is no interference (avast effectively intercepts the execution of file to first scan them).

You could enable the ‘Show detailed info on performed actions’ in the Standard Shield. Once you have done that swipe the fingerprint scanner and see what file is uses to validate it and try excluding that.

Sorry I can’t be more helpful, I don’t have a fingerprint scanner on my system.

So, i’ve tried adding all the files that the program runs to the exceptions list, because it runs several everytime the scanner is used. And, i’ve tried adding the actual My Safe folder to the list as well. It still isn’t working. HELP!!! This is really pissing me off and I am on the verge of changing my anitvirus software.

There are two Exclusion lists:

For the Standard Shield provider (on-access scanning):
Left click the ‘a’ blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button…

For the other providers (on-demmand scanning such as the screen-saver or the Simple User Interface):
Right click the ‘a’ blue icon, click Program Settings.
Go to Exclusions tab and click on Add button…

You can use wildcards like * and ?.
But be carefull, you should ‘exclude’ that many files that let your system in danger.
