Help with avast and aim

I recently installed avast but now i can’t run aol instant messenger, it will pop up and then just disappear

anybody know what the problem may be or how to disable this from happening because it’s really annoying

edit: i uninstalled the newest version of aim and tried the oldest version which was still on my computer and that works just fine, so i don’t know what the problem was but i guess i’m stuck with this old version unless any of you know what the problem could be

What firewall are you using? It may be your firewall settings has the old aim allowed, but you need to allow the new version of aim in your firewall.

just windows firewall and i had norton security but uninstalled that because avast said something about those not running at the same time but i was able to run the newest aim just fine before i downloaded avast so it’s weird, i don’t know what it is

  1. Remove NAV or Norton 360 through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
  2. Use Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista or Norton Removal Tool for Windows 98/Me. Boot.
  3. Install avast! (or repair the installation) and boot.

The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2008/2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products and Norton 360 from your computer.
