Help with C:\windows\SysWOW64\msiexec.exe

Hello, like some others I have a problem with …\SysWOW64\msiexec.exe
The problem came from a friend’s USB stick.

Avast was constantly blocking these two:

After I followed your instructions (and got the log files), the pop-up from Avast stoped but I don’t know if this is enougth.
So, I’ll be thankfull if you could have a look at the log files and help me further. If I have understood correctly, there is specific fix for every machine.
Also MBAM found some threats but I have delete them yet (they have been quarantined). Should I delete them “immediately” ?

FIRST >>>>

Please go to START (Windows Orb) >> Control Panel >> Uninstall a Program or Programs and Features and remove the following (if listed):

Freemake Video Downloader
Freemake YouTube To MP3 Boom

To do so, left clicking on the name once and then click Uninstall/Change at the bar above the list window.

Follow the prompts of the uninstaller BUT please read carefully any questions it asks before answering; some uninstallers will try and deceive you into keeping the software.

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

Right-click on

Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
- Press the Fix button just once and wait.
- If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
- When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.
  Please attach it to your reply.

Download MCShield to your desktop and install
It will initially run a scan and show the result as a toaster by the system clock
Then in the control centre select scanner and tick unhide items on flash drives

Plug in the infected drive(s) and McShield will start a scan / cleaning of the drive(s)
Select logs and then copy/paste it to your next post

Did the problem came from Freemake programs? The truth is that I used them recently after months of unuse.

We are not sure where this comes from; your system had two different infections. One could have brought the other … One more item to delete please …

Open notepad by pressing the Windows Key + R Key, typing in Notepad in the Run dialog and then pressing Enter. Please copy the contents of the Code box below. To do this highlight the contents of the box by clicking [Select] next to Code: , then right click on any of the highlighted text and select copy. Paste this into the open notepad. Save it to your desktop as fixlist.txt

Run FRST64 by right clicking on the FRST64.exe file, selecting “Run as Administrator…”. The User Account Control may open up; if it does, select Yes to continue to let FRST open and load.

The tool will check for an updated version of itself every time it loads; please allow it to do this and the program will either inform you it is downloading an updated copy (and to wait until it is safe to continue) or show nothing (meaning there is no update found) and you can continue on. Press the Fix button just once and wait. The tool will create a restore point, process the script and ask for a restart of your system.

Doesn’t make much sense to me to first clean it and than format it.
But I do suggest that if the system is clean and working fine to create a image of the drive(s) and ofcourse backup the data on a regular base.

System Restore is not running on your system. If you have a particular reason for turning it Off yourself that is fine; but if you did not I would recommend you turn it back on.

Once the System Restore issue has been looked at, unless you have any other issues ....

Clean up of Malware Removal Tools
Now that we are through using these tools, let’s clean them off your system so that should you ever need to have malware removed again (we hope not) fresh, updated copies will be downloaded.

[]Download Delfix from here to your desktop and double click it to start the program
[*]Ensure Remove disinfection tools is ticked
Also tick:
[]Activate UAC
[]Create registry backup
[]Purge system restore
[*]Reset system settings

It was too late…I had already pressed the Post button when I thought about it again.

As you can see at the log file, I didn’t reset my system’s settings. I didn’t like the idea. I hope it’s not problem.

Entirely up to you; all DelFix would have done was change the System Settings back to default secure settings (things like the File / Folder view settings, etc.).
