Maybe you should run a scandisk into your system and try to correct file access to that files.
Maybe the files belong to a non-good installation of Windows Update. Do you have 825732 update correctly installed?

I can’t see why this KB835732 (Microsoft security bulletin MS04-011) uninstall would be access denied, none of the ones I have (and I don’t have many, after a few months I remove them anyway if thee has been no problem with the KB) remaining on my system.

Does this happen for the other $NTUNINSTALLxxxxxxx$ packages ?

This KB835732 is a very old one from April 2004 (Updated, August 2004, last reviewed October 2006) so I would think that the kinks have been ironed out and you are unlikely to need to uninstall the KB.

i don’t get any other warnings/errors about other updates. like i said, it only started happening a couple days ago when there were updates installed automatically. i looked at my update history and it said there were know recent updates from a couple days ago. i also manually checked and there were none.

i did a scan disk like Tech said. so is there a way to see the results?

You would se the results only if you ran scandisk from a command window, if run directly from the windows start, run the command window opens runs the scandisk and closes. First run cmd, then chkdsk from the command prompt in the command window.

now what?

That is why I posted the image as it gives the options to recover whilst scanning. That may get round the cannot continue in read-only mode, add the switch chkdsk /r to recover data.

You might also consider running sfc (System File Checker) type ‘sfc /scannow’ without the quotes.

However, I’m none to confident that either of these will resolve what is really a minor issue that avast can’t scan it. That same permission issue would also stop them being modified so risk is low.

How are set your avast! services?
Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Windows Events

Which are the permissions for that particular folder (security access rights)?

there’s no Administrative Tools in my C.P.

Which is your operational system?

xp home sp3

Hmmm… maybe Home does not have them… only Professional. Sorry.

You did not answer this:

the logs havn’t appeared for the past couple of days ???

Do you mean that avast can scan the files now?

i don’t know. i guess it can scan them because i cleared the logs and usually they would regenerate the next day but it stopped now and i didn’t do anything to fix it.
