Help with Standard Shield Support

Avast 4.6 Home WindowsXP Mozilla
In trying to find why resident protection isn’t on, (red circle/slash) I found that in Services, there are
four services for avast!
Anvtivirus - automatic
iAVS4 Control Sercie - automatic - Started
Mail Scanner - Manual
Web Scanner - Manual

Remote Procedure Call (RPC) is running.
When I try to start Antivirus (is this resident protection?) I get Error 1068 dependent Service …
Then I see that avast! standard shield support is required to do this.
This was selected each time I have installed.
I’m ignorant about Standard Shield Support.
Can anyone suggest what I may have done wrong?

please check state row in: sc query aswMon2 command - is the driver running ?
and check avast’s log viewer for errors

thanks for the reply.
driver is stopped.
nothing in log - what setting should be in log?

could you please check windows system event log viewer (in Control panel / Administrative Tools ) - there should be a log why it didnt start

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7001
Date: 5/4/2005
Time: 7:06:57 AM

Description:
The avast! Antivirus service depends on the avast! Standard Shield Support service which failed to start because of the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

it means that aswMon2.sys is missing in your \Windows\System32\drivers folder - is it right ? try to repair avast from setup

Searched for aswMon2.sys
Three references: \Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\INF
system fiile, setup information, and system file for AMD64.
No reference in \Windows\System32\drivers folder
Tried repair in Add/Remove Programs. No change.
Tried change in the avast setup (there is no repair function there).
No change.
Should I copy/moer aswMon2.sys to \Windows\System32\drivers folder or what?

I thought the zolt program was off when installing avast!
By doing the install from within zolt set to bypass zolt, the avast! install was ok.
Thanks again for your replies

Hi,

Hmm I’m having the same problem :-\

I don’t have the aswMon2.sys file anywhere!

…what is “zolt”?

Sorry cannot help. I use linux now instead of winxp.
zolt program prevents programs with selected extensions from being loaded to the computer (example: those with .exe)
It was a freebee and I do not remember where I got it from.

What is your OS ?
Have you tried and avast repair ?
Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If that doesn’t work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.
