Help with the free edition

Hi everyone I hope this is in the right area.
I’m having an issue with my computer and it looks like a virus so I read the free avast was good to use on download.com. So today I downloaded the free home version 60 day demo mode it installed and restarted. I haven’t registered it, but now my computer really doesn’t have any room since it keeps telling me to uninstall programs to make room for the computer memory I guess and I am not sure how to scan with it so now it is just here on my computer. I tried to uninstall it but it wont let me, do I need to register the demo version before I can do that, I don’t want the program anymore. This program taking up space on my computer and I am not savvy enough to use it since I am not very good with computers. I want to know if I can uninstall this and try something simpler that can just scan and see if I have a virus on my computer? Please help me out. Thanks in advance.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

Let’s see if I’ve got this straight. You wanted an antivirus program to see if you had a virus. Weren’t you using one before? If not, then you probably do have a virus.

Avast does not have to be registered during the trial period. ow did you try to uninstall avast? It should unistall via add/remove programs. If it won’t the us the uninstall utility from here.

Make sure the right folder is in the small white box. That’s a browse button beside it, use it to find the Alwil software folder.

In this day and age you need an antivirus program and avast is an easy one to use. I don’t fully understand the error message, is your hard drive full?

You can use this online scanner, Kaspersky to see what they detect.

If I read correctly what you have written, then it will not matter what antivirus program you try to use as the results will be the same. Have you tried deleting cookies and temporary files?

I do have an antivirus program norton but it is very old 5 yrs and doesn’t update or detect anything so I wanted to try something else to see if it would help. I am going to try and uninstall it again. Thank you for the help.

That is a good point. I will go and clear those things out. Thanks very much.

That Norton is worthless now. Uninstall it and then use the Norton removal tool available on their website. Then, install avast.

I managed to uninstall the program lots of thanks to those who answered. I am going to go out to buy some new software for my pc. Thanks again.
