help with Win32:malware-gen

Hi, I’ve been getting alot of pop ups lately from avast saying that it has blocked a malware in my computer, it is always either Win32:malware-gen or Win32:trojan-gen, however when i scanned the computer with Malwarebytes it didnt detect anything.
The pop up is occuring about every 5 minutes even when there are no other programs running

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

hi Frank.11,

Please go here and download and run these programs to produce scan logs for the following programs: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

  • AdwCleaner
  • Malwarebytes (MBAM.exe)
  • OTL
  • aswMBR.exe

Click ‘Attachments and other options’ link below the text reply box to attach the logs produced. You may need to post more than one reply to attach all required logs due to the forum maximum file size limit of 192 KB per post.

Ok thanks
ive attached the logs here

And now you wait. Volunteer certified malware specialists live in different time zones, so might be a bit before one comes online for you.

aswMBR.exe scan indicates a problem with a necessary windows file, services.exe, so do not attempt to quarantine or delete this file. Wait for a malware expert to guide you through the process of cleansing this file as the fix proposed will be custom-made just for your system and no other.

I strongly suggest leaving fixing services.exe to the professionals. Follow all instructions to the dot, and you will be in the clear.

Thank you for providing the logs so your expert can assist you.

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

Run OTL

[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

[*]Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.

THEN

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

[*]Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
[*]Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

FINALLY

run farbar service scanner

It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.

Please copy and paste the log to your reply.
