Help

42016 error please I have had this before but now it’s back and I don’t know what to do. Says my scanner settings well I haven’t changed anything. ???

Could you please supply the “entire” error message exactly as it pops up.

Thanks.

42016 AVAST_FILENOTSELECTED File was not tested due engine configuration details

Well I have changed my e-mail address since signing up for this so I just got back this evening to check for answers. Believe me if I knew how to send these messages because there are tons of them I would.

fungranny,

You have TONs of error messages!

Please clarify your post. I do not understand exactly what your problem is. The initial error message does not contain sufficient information upon which to base an analysis of your trouble.

Thanks

We really can’t be of much help if you don’t tell us more. The error in your first post is pretty much self explanatory. It oculd be a archive while you have not selected/enabled archive scanning. Or the files can be skipped because you have not selected thorough scan.

Well okay today I did the archived files and turned it on through now I didn’t get 42016 errors I got Unable to scan:Archive is password Protected 204 lines… so how do I insert passwords to make sure there are no virus thingys in them?

You can tell I don’t know much, but when I first downloaded this program I was told not to do the archived files so I guess that’s why it wasn’t checked.

I love this program and have never had a virus but would like to know why these reports come out so long.

Short answer: You can’t.

Some applications encrypt their files, like Avast does wiht its vps file or as Sun’s JVM does with some of the files. There is no way to tell Avast all the passwords for these files, since you don’t know them. So a list with “password protected files not scanned” after running a scan is normal.

You can look at the list to see if there is a file in it which you don’t trust and than use GOOGLE to find out what it is. But normally those files in that list are not harmfull.

Anyway, you can exclude this files from the report (not from scanning).
This way, your report will be shorter and will have only the infected files.
Go to Settings > Reports > let only the ‘Infected files’ option on. Uncheck the others 8)

Okay well at least I now can explain this to the nursing home as well. Really appreciate your help and so glad that you people are here to help us old ladies.
