HELP?!?

I am sorry to post such an odd question but I am having trouble resolving this issue. Any advice is appreciated.

I purchased a 1 year subscription a few months ago and now I’m getting messages at startup that my “trial period” has ended and my system is not protected. I thought at first it was an advertising to get me to upgrade, but the little spinning a/sphere icon is no longer visible at the bottom of my screen.

Is it possible the avast company has made a mistake, or was I confused about what a 1 year subscription means? I tried to find a phone number to call and ask these questions but I am in the USA and the number is European.

I want to verify the subscription I purchased with avast (I can provide a record of the transaction where they took the money from my bank account for the service), but I am not sure what is the best way to do that.

Help?!?

Are you sure this message is from avast!? This sounds like rogue (fake) antivirus that has captured your computer. Please Post a screenshot of this alert. In windows vista you can do this with snipping tool,

To start the Snipping Tool please follow these steps:

Click on the Start button to open your Start Menu. The Start button looks like this:
Then click on the All Programs menu option.
Then click on the Accessories group
Finally click on the the Snipping Tool icon which looks like this:

What avast version are you using 4.8 pro or 5.0 pro ?

Did you actually enter the registration/license file into avast ?

Have you still got the email that was sent with your license key ?

I do not run Vista, I am on XP and not sure how to capture an image of this message.

This is the email I got from avast after I purchased the service:

Dear Valued Customer,

On 02-MAR-2010 you purchased the following product by ALWIL Software a.s.
from element 5 and paid by credit card:
avast! 4 Professional Edition, 1 year

The order stored in our system under order no. – was paid with your
Visa card. The total amount of the order is USD 39.95.

… ok i deleted almost everything

I think I found the license key you mentioned in another email

OK, that looks fine, I would suggest you use the Modify button on your last post and remove any details that could be useful to others or even all of it.

That is indicating you purchased a license for avast 4.8 Pro.

So I presume that you are actually using avast version 4.8 Pro still ?
If so did you enter that key as the 4.8 versions had a 60 day trial usage and that looks like what may have kicked as 3-Mar-2010 to 2-may-2010 would be close to the end of the trial period as your error stated ?

i dont remember if i originally entered the key or not. I did use a free trial version of avast last year and it ran out. it was a few months later when i suspected i had picked up a virus that I contacted avast and purchased the one year subscription.

Are you saying that even if I purchased the 1 year it is only good for 60 days if I don’t put the key in?

avast 4.8 trial period was 60 days.
avast 5 trial period is 30 days.

Are you saying that even if I purchased the 1 year it is only good for 60 days if I don't put the key in?
Yes.

Yes, purchasing the license won’t change the status installed trial software, how could it, it doesn’t know you have purchased a license. Alwil software can’t somehow convert your trial version to the pro version as it doesn’t have a clue what PC or IP would be used with that license. So you have to enter the license.

The above mentioned email should have included information telling you to insert the key in the program.
Did it?
