Help!

I have the free version of avast on my computer, worked great till yesterday, now it won’t do anything and when I try to update or scan I get the following message " unable to start scan, there are no more endpoints from the endpoint mapper" I did not disable anything but, it sure seems like I did. What do I do now? I have tried to restart my computer and that did nothing!
Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated because I am somewhat dorky when it comes to computers:)

You say everything worked fine until yesterday. Which scanners are not working? Which updates are not working?

When did you put avast on your PC, and was it a clean install or upgrade? What version do you have? The latest build is 5.0.545.

Did you or do you have any other antivirus (AV), firewall, or anti-malware on your machine that is resident (running all the time)? What was your previous AV and how long ago did you have it on your machine?

Can you give us some information about your system (OS - Win Vista, XP SP3, etc.?, etc.). Let’s start from there. Depending on the above response, it is possible you MAY need to uninstall avast and do a clean install, but give us the information needed before you do anything. Thank you.

add to SafeSurf`s questions, have you tried avast repair ?

For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
