HELP!!

Sorry, but I’m not too tech savvy. The little blue ball icon disappeared from my lower right hand corner, so I can’t enter my new key#. I drug an avast icon out of my programs to the desktop, but it won’t give me the route to enter my new key either.
This is a Dell inspiron 531 by the way.
HELP! ???

well the little blue ball belongs to the old avast 4.8 and support for avast 4.X will end this year

so i recomend you install the new avast 5 with a orange ball

Avast! Free Antivirus 5.0.677
http://filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/

how to register with no key ( if you use the online reg ) just your name and a valid E-mail address

On-line registration is very simple and it’s the preferred method for all users of avast Free Antivirus 5.x installed on a computer with standard Internet connectivity. To perform on-line registration follow these steps: http://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=459

Thanks Pondus! Looks like I’m headed down that road right now.

A Manchester United fan from Norway?

Glory glory glory Maaaaaanuuuuuuuu ;D

New Avast installed!! And it didn’t even tell me I had to enter a key! ;D

Go Chelsea!!

Chelsea…not sure i can help you ;D

If you installed on top of the old one, it will read the license from the old avast 4.8 during the uninstall/install process
So if there was time left on the old you will now have that time on the new…there should be license info in the Gui that tell you how long time you have…

If not you have 30 days to register

I had installed Avast but after that i am not able to browse the websites.
I am only able to open sites with https and that is also not able to open alwasys.

Pl. help me to find setting required to do, so that i should able to open websites i.e. able to browse the sites.

Vivek

What is your firewall ?
Does it allow avastSvc.exe internet access ?

  • If it does delete the entry for it and reconnect to the internet, this should force the firewall to ask permission again.

firewall is Microsoft security essential

MSE is not a firewall but a full-fledged anti-virus. (unless you are getting it mixed up with windows firewall?)

Never good to have 2 resident AV’s. Remove MSE and you might see results.

That is not a firewall but the Microsoft Antivirus program, so you have two AV installed and that is probably the problem Never install more then one AV as this can/will create all kind of mysterious windows errors and false positive detections so uninstall Microsoft security essential, reboot and see if that solved it

after you have done that it is recomended to run the uninstall tool so all leftovers are gone
you can find it here as #23b run it and reboot again http://uninstallers.blogspot.com/
