BOTH MY DESKTOP AND LAPTOP AVAST ANTIVIRUS STOP SUDDENLY. SUBSCRIPTION STILL VALID FOR ANOTHER SIX MONTHS BUT CANNOT FIND CODE ETC TO REINSTALL.

  1. Download and run: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/vpsupd.exe
  2. Reboot.

If your avast stopped for no apparent reason then go to Control Panel to uninstall your avast antivirus, reboot your computer then go to the link above

Cannot believe it took me ages to find it but hope it will help someone out there
