Helpp New to this Virus stuff :/

So a friend’s friend tricked me, and I have a virus now…
I tried opening MalwareBytes, but it wouldn’t open. I tried a System Restore, but it said it couldn’t start. I tried it in Safe Mode, same thing happened. Now I can’t find the MalwareBytes icon, either. How do I remove this virus? It keeps Making FireFox crash, as well.

By the way, sometimes when I go on Google/Yahoo and search something and click on one of the links, it redirects me to some IP and ad thing…

how did he trick you…did he send you a file that you run ?
do you still have it ?
can you upload it to www.virustotal.com and test with 43 malware scanners
when you have the result, copy the url in the address bar and post it here for us to see

then try this

Break with both, they’re no friends…!
As for the virus, do you have any name for us.
Which avast do you use…? Which version…??
Did you try a boot time scan yet…?

I don’t see it in my downloads thing… Odd… I also can’t remember the link, D:

Also, a friend told me to come here, but I’ll DL Avast right now, update it, etc. Sorry! Then I’ll try running a boot time scan.

That’s no friend and two courses of action, recommend he starts a dental plan or they could be prosecuted under the computer misuse act if you have such a law in the USA for knowingly infecting your system.

One is legal the other not so, one is a pain for you (proving it) and the other a pain for him.

It could be that the malware is simply blocking by name of the security product.
SUPERantispyware (SAS). On-Demand only in free version.
Don't worry about reported tracking cookies they are a minor issue and not one of security, allow SAS to deal with them though. - See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie.
Also available, a portable version of SAS, http://www.superantispyware.com/portablescanner.html, no installation required. This one comes with a randomly named file so should be able to get past any malware just looking for specific security application names.

So I Dl’d Avast, and ran it, and after like 5 mins of it open, this came up when I tried scanning.

I have no clue if I can still do a boot-time scan, and how do I do it? Sorry for my… Newbiness :s

Did a boot time scan, there was an infected file which I deleted, but…

Avast says it’s “insecure” or whatever, and every time I hit the “Fix now” button, you see something load, and nothing happen.

I still can’t run scans, either. It doesn’t work. It says there are no endpoints available from the endpoint mapper.

Redownloading MalwareBytes again, going to see if I can run a scan.

 1. Repair avast:
 • Control Panel - Add/Remove programs - avast!
 • Scroll down and click on ‘Repair’.
 • Follow instructions.
 1. Report back the results. (Post the Mbam log)
 1. I opened the add/remove program thing, clicked on avast, and changed it since there wasn’t a repair option. It still won’t “fix now!”.

 2. MalwareBytes still won’t work, either. Going to give it another shot.
