The story starts out around 6 or 7 a.m. I felt fine and it looked like I would be happy all day. So I cranked up my old tech computer to start a long day on the Internet. What I thought I would do is look up GUN FORUMS (where people go to discuss guns). I sent the GOOGLE HOUND out on a search mission to see what OLD FAITHFUL might bring up. After a short wait (you know my computer) I was presented with a nice list of links to different GUN FORUMS. I started at the top and worked my way down the list till I came across a very inviting link to a GUN FORUM. I clicked on the link leading to the site; when all of a sudden everything when crazy. I started to hear in a load voice like I have never hear before: " DANGER! DANGER! DANGER! .... MASTER JACK; WE'RE BEING ATTACKED BY A VIRUS". (This anti virus really does talk). Then a window opened up that said the virus had been blocked. Someone like a spider, looking for prey, had planted this link to try and create a virus on my computer. I want to tell you I went white with fear and yellow with fright. I started shutting everything down. I closed one window after another; till I got down to the desk top. Then I turned on AVAST anti virus and let her loose to seek and destroy. Well ... I sat there nervously looking at the screen; waiting to find out if a virus might have gotten by AVAST'S protective walls of defense. After about 2 hours she came back with great news that all was clear and that no viruses were found on our system. I want to tell you that I breathed a sigh of relief.
Soooooo ..... My dear daughter, The moral of this rancid little story is this, if you don't have an anti virus program on your computer this could happen to you. Avast is an anti virus program that works for me. I spent a full week looking all over the Internet trying to find just the right program; one that my poor old computer could handle and not slow it down too much. I first tried out for about a week their free Avast program (as well as many others). I ended up liking the program so much that I bought it for $24.00 (not bad.... Some cost as much as $60.00).
Well just wanted to tell you about my close call with a virus that almost got your poor old Dad. ..........
The end
P.S. Wendy please get an anti virus program.
avast! Free Antivirus is free, as its name suggests. It can be downloaded for free from the avast website then all you need to do is register within 30 days and you can continue to use it completely for free for a whole year. Thereafter you only need to re-register each year to renew your protection for a further 12 months. If you have paid for the free version, it sounds like you may have been scammed.
You said “Then I turned on AVAST anti virus and let her loose to seek and destroy”.
My question is, don’t you run Avast! real time? If not, you should. ???
I’m pretty sure by ‘turning on’ master Jack meant he ran a full scan. Since he stated that he got a verbal warning like, “Danger! Danger! Will Robinson…” he must have had avast enabled.
Good story! indeed, Avast! is an awesome product, i would like to have the suite version too ;D
If would be you i would install WOT on your browser, it´s a free aplication that warms about bew dangar even before you enter the site, and if you are redirected or something it can not let you go in except you want to go anyway. You can download it for MFirefox, IE and chrome, so i would suggest you install it.
It´s nice to feel protectad by a talking AV anyway ;D
WOT, isn’t perfect with good sites marked bad and bad sites marked good, etc. this is always going to be that way as it is community based and relies on the experience of the community reporting sites. So it should be used for guidance and not as gospel.
Yes, that is right, WOT is based in the experience of thge people and that is not a guarranty, but if you sre sure about the siteyouare visiting its ok. For example WOT gives a bad reputation to TED conferences site and its an academical site with no warnings or problems so far, so i put that site on the “white list” and WOT do not alert me anymore.
