I think I’d make a worthy ally ;D just a thought
Why? What will Sophos technology help avast?
Any particular feature of it?
Well if they should buy Sophos, then they need money! and to gett that money, you need to buy avastPRO or avast AIS…so i hope you are not using avastFREE then ;D
I have learn about Sophos today, seen reviews about it and visited their site, it has a fair acceptance as far as it goes, and since is free maybe would be a good addition to Avast virus database and their technology to avast’s.
I’ve read that a College buys Sophos AV and give it to their students at a price included in their college fees (I suppose to a student price), and some people uses it too, so I though: If some people prefers it over free, more popular and proved security software like Avast! must be a reason.
Haha, oh please with 140M users you think Avast! lacks of money?
140M are almost all free users…
what is such a thread doing in the software section ??? … such an interesting topic :
True but I saw 7M+ downloads on CNET on pro version and almost 1M on IS version, I don’t think all those copies are pirated, the free version is pretty solid defense and you can use it with no time limitations so I doubt people actually go pirate Avast! since it gives a lot to people and generally people see this and respect the paid software mostly. I have seen comments all ober the web and seen that people pirate software that makes people angry, or companies that charge too much for it, like Microsoft/Windows, so frankly I think Avast! Software is in good hands
Well it is about software, Sophos+Avast! actually as I suggested in my OP, I couldn’t find a ‘suggestion’ section so I had to put it in the ‘Avast!’ section.
and since is free??? ??? ??? Sophos do a free Mac otherwise min 1 year, min 3 users = £97.50 for the AV
Saul, what will Sophos add to avast? Which feature?
Well the AV and anti-rootkit for instance but actually I liked everything Sophos has to offer for security and I think would be a nice addition to Avast!
This feature is already available in Avast
I like Sophos. They had the best free pens at the RSA conference last week (see picture). The transparent barrel, besides having their name etched on it, has purple lights inside that blink at 3 user selectable speeds. Plus the corkscrew shaped clip is distinctive. Avast! could probably use their packaging expertise if nothing else.
Wow… Let’s change an antivirus for a pen
Ah - the good old days with Sophos
AntiVirus defs delivered by post on CD once a month
If you want avast to buy Sophos, I would rather avast spent its money on Malwarebytes. Seeing that Malwarebyes have excellent cleaning and protection, with Malwarebytes technology and avast’s, avast will be great beyond recognition.
Obsolete topic.
You miss the point, I meant Avast! to merge with Sophos AV & ARK if it’s worth it.
If it’s worth it (not repeating the same tech & virus definitions) then I’m all for it.
I’m closing this thread as it makes very little sense.
Saul Luizaga, thanks for trying to help but what you’re suggesting doesn’t really make much sense.
Sophos is a good product, of course - but the company behind it is like 5x the size of us (at least in terms of headcount). Also, the verticals are different (consumer vs enterprise). In case you’re not aware, Sophos is one of the top players on the UK corporate AV market.
Cheers
