I just downloaded Avast 4 and i found it very impressive and it picked out a lot of viruses and thanks alot
I just wanted to find out if I could change the settings of Avast when it scans because everytime it picks up a virus, the scanning is on hold until I perform an action on the virus. Could I somehow deal with the virus after finish scanning the pc? This would really be helpful for me because it takes a long time to scan my win 98 pc and I can’t be around it like forever to finish scanning.
As has been said, these automated options are only available in the Pro version.
This is a limitation of the Home (free) version that it has interactive input requirement, there have to be differences in the Home/Pro version and this is one of them, the programmers have to eat ;D
Over time this will become less of a problem as you clean out your system, the resident, on-access scanners keep new stuff out of your system. So there is less likelihood of coming back to your system to find the scan waiting for input.
I would also suspect that you are doing a thorough scan and possibly with archives also. This is I personally feel is overkill I do a weekly scan Standard sensitivity and without Archives, this is very quick by comparison.
Archive (zip, etc.) files are by their nature are inert, you need to extract the files and then you have to run them to be a threat. Long before that happens avast’s Standard Shield should have scanned them and before an executable is run that is scanned. Thorough is also by its design very thorough and perhaps a little overkill for routine use, were a Standard scan without archives should be adequate.
I have only ever done a through scan with archives once shortly after installation just to ensure a clean start state, but with XP for example avast will do a boot-time scan after installation if you select it, this I believe will be quicker and reasonably effective. Like everything in life things are a compromise.
Erm…
IF u are running the boot scan… u can modified the setting to move the chest or delete all to make it easier…
but it not a good desicion…
but I always make the boot scan so that the virus deleted all…
until now no probs happen to all pc sent to me…
just only some registry mistake from the virus that need to be repaired only…
