hi every 1 im new here i was wondering im just about to insatll avast free edition im useing windows 7. do i use that with the built in firewall or do i download a free one like comodo as i hear thats good if not ill just use it with the built in firewall that should be ok the built in 1 wont it. useing avast as a friend told me its very good
Avast free and Pro versions are stand alone anti-viruses and don’t include a firewall, so yes you need a firewall.
Many forum users are using these also:
- Online Armor for the most parts fine but it has caused some users grief after avast program updates and that is something you have to watch out for.
- Outpost Firewall 2009 free, a cut down version of the Outpost Firewall Pro version, which should still provide good protection, http://free.agnitum.com/. Download, http://www.filehippo.com/download_outpost_firewall/
Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
in addition to the information DavidR provided, you may wish to see this link which compares the different versions of avast! including our Internet Security version which does indeed include a firewall: http://www.avast.com/en-gb/comparison-chart
I hope this helps,
Best regards,
Adam
I use Avast! with Outpost free firewall. This firewall gives me no problems, my computer does not slow down. I have tried all othe free firewalls, but all slow me down. Outpost i8s best for me. I have a Samsung Netbook NC10.
Hi gamesfan12, personaly the windows 7 firewall isnt to bad, i use it myself and it is better than the xp and vista firewall but does not have outbound protection by default but can be configured if you know what your doing. Just the standard setting’s are fine though and if you turn off remote connection’s in system protection it provide’s abit more safety. (EDIT just realised he’s also posted elsewhere).
