Hi all - Problem: Avast v4.7

:-\I have Avast home edition and v4.7 and its been in perfect working form till about 2 weeks ago where booted up my machine and found a message in my taskbar from my window security center saying “avast! antivirus 4.7. 1074 [VPS 071113-1] reports that it might be out of date.”

So i up dated it via right clicking on the avast icon in my taskbar and clicking updating > iAVS update then program update - still no love from it…

I uninstalled avast completly then D/Led it again from avast and regerstered a new anti virus key. and That still didnt solve my problem… :frowning:

I noticed when i ran my mouse pointer over my avast icon in the taskbar it says “avast! On-Access scanner: 7 provider(s) total, 6 running” - So i am assuming that the provider not running is what is causing my Seccruity center to alert me with “your virus protection is out of day”???

But yet when i open my On Access scanner all my providers (7) are running at high sensitivity.

Some one plz help me

The Outlook/Exchange provider will not be running if you are not using MS Outlook (not Outlook Express). That should not be a problem with the Windows Security Center. Have you checked your system clock? If that is not correct, it could cause your WSC problem with avast. Don’t forget to check the year.

I do have that provider turned on, it all ways has been.

is there any other provider settings? apart from what i stated in my first post
?

Anyone elc have any posible solutions?

Thanks?

You could start by telling us which of the 7 providers isn’t running ?

You didn’t say if you checked your system date (as tls suggested), the most likely issue if one checking for updates and it reports avast is up to date ?

Do you actually use MS Outlook (not express) ?

If the Standard Shield provider is not running (paused or terminated), the Windows Security Center message is similar to:
Your computer might be at risk
avast! antivirus 4.7.1074 [VPS 071114-0] is turned off
Click this balloon to fix this problem.”

If any of the other providers is not running, there should be no Windows Security Center message. The WSC message you are seeing is most often related to a system clock discrepancy.

Unlike the other providers, the Outlook/Exchange provider runs only when MS Outlook is open/running, regardless of the settings you have chosen. Its status message when Outlook is not open is “The provider is waiting for a subsystem to start,” rather than “The provider is currently running,” “The provider is currently paused,” or “No task is currently using this provider.”

(The Script Blocking provider shown in the screen shot is not available in Avast home edition; I have 8 providers total, 7 running, if I am using all available providers and MS Outlook is not open.)

All of my providers:

*Instant messaging
*internet mail
*Network shield
*outlook/exchange
*p2p shield
*standard shield
*web shield

All of the above are currently running

And yes when i click on the Outlook/exchange provider it does say at the top “The provider is waiting for a subsystem to start”
Im not sure what that means???.

And no i dont use Outlook or outlook express. Just hotmail.

Please confirm that you have very carefully checked the date on your system clock is on or close to:

Year: 2007
Month:11
Day: 15

It means it is waiting for MS Outlook to be started, as has been previously explained this Outlook/Exchange Provider is disabled by default. Unless you have enabled it or your are MS Outlook or MS Exchange installed in which case avast would enable the provider.

Then you don’t need the Outlook/Exchange provider, Terminate it and answer Yes about persisting the change.

Technically if you only use web based email viewed through your browser you don’t need the Internet Mail provider either. However, I would suggest you leave that enabled and also set the Sensitivity to High. This could provide early warning if you have an undetected trojan sending out spam.

As has been stressed many times now the root of your problem is likely to be an incorrect system date, check, check, check.

Yeah its set to (time):

10.34
16th
November 2007

And what is the actual date where you are located? According to you profile (which may or may not be correct), today’s date should be 15th. Since your location is not given in your profile, I can’t check to see which is correct.

If your system clock is set to 16th, and the date is actually 15th, this would cause the message you are seeing.

The date would have to be out by 7 days I believe before WSC will flag it as possibly out of date.

Thank you for the correction, DavidR. I thought I remembered seeing the out of date message with less difference, but I am likely mistaken. I have only seen it once or twice (after the kids have used my computer), and not recently–so a memory fault on my part is quite possible probable.

hi guys =)

BlackouT, I remember having same issue once some time ago with Security Center not recognizing avast! signatures up to date - and they were up-to-date.

My memory fails now to remember how I dealed with that and what launched that error in first place, but I think it was something like t l s says, my PC clock was set one day AFTER it right time.

Please check that and post your results

Also, you can make a search in these forums for you will find I’m sure other post regarding this problem.

Oh sorry guys

Yeah i live in NZ and its friday the 16th of november right now - 5.19pm is what my computer clock reads next to tash bar. i have made sure that the clock was in accordance to my phone which is allways correct…

OK, something is out of sync, so you could try a repair of avast. I don’t know if that will resolve it but it won’t hurt to try.

Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

Allright ill see what i can do.

Big up to all who pointed me in the right direction thank you dearly, i have solved the problem.

Your welcome.
Could you tell us which was the solution, it may help others who may read this topic in the future ?

Timing like eveyone said. lol
