File C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\QZHZIQP5\AppleMobileDeviceSupport[1].msi\01_Stringpool Error 42145 {OLE archive is corrupted.}
File C:\WINDOWS\system\RCDsetup.exe%SYS%\OCXSETUP.WS4 Error 42146 {Installer archive is corrupted.}
so… what should i do? how do i fix these?
and also every time i log in to friendster.com and check my friends profile, after few seconds i will get disconnected and a pop up message saying that i have to get Anti Virus 2009 blah blah blah.as soon as i close the message, avast will alarm and detects a trojan. of course ill just follow what avast say “abort connection”.but it’s annoying coz i can’t use the website because of that annoying pop up.
Not a lot - - Corrupted Archive file, this could simply mean that avast is unable to unpack it to scan the contents of the archive and assuming it is because it is corrupt. Even if it were corrupt there is nothing that a user can do to resolve any corruption, short of replacing the file.
As for the other issue, you may have a rogue application trying to infect you and that is what avast is preventing. Don’t visit the antivirus 2009 site and don’t install it. It is likely that the friendster.com site may have been hacked or some pages have not unusual for a social networking site and that is causing the pop-ups/redirects.
Just to make sure nothing came down other than what avast blocked - If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode and report the findings (it should product a log file).
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, On-Demand only in free version http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/malwarebytes/mbam-setup.exe, right click on the link and select Save As or Save File (As depending on your browser), save it to a location where you can find it easily later.
tnx for the info. i have Spybot SnD and i scanned it,it didn’t detect anything.is that enough? or do you highly recommend for me to use the anti spyware and anti malware you gave?
You’re welcome, whilst S&D is a good product I believe both of the others are a notch up the ladder. With malwarebytes antimalware being particularly good on the rogue programs like antivirus 2009, etc.
It may well be that avast blocked everything and that is why S&D didn’t find anything and the others may not either, but the antivirus 2009 is particularly nasty (read hard to get rid of) if established. Hence my suggestion to be doubly sure and preferable run the applications from safe mode.
Yes, that is all but post the results of the scans, especially if they find anything as that could help us, they should both generate reports. Don’t worry about SAS mentioning adware tracking cookies a minor pain in the rear not a security, just let it remove those.
It is best to run from safe mode (as I mentioned earlier) if there is a suspicion of infection.
i didn’t do anything yet i just scanned it.so what do i do next?
also i have some questions for you guys (hope you don’t mind).
aside from those 2 programs above(which DavidR recommended), i also have Avast 4.8 home edition, Spybot S n D, Ccleaner and Eusing Registry Cleaner.how come these 4 programs didn’t manage to detect what Malwarebytes and Superantispyware detected?and also which of these programs should i keep and which should i uninstall (please explain why?).last, after fixing the problem, you think i can visit friendster.com(where that annoying Anti Virus 2009 pops up and disconnects me)?or just forget that?
The MyWebSearch is indeed considered adware as it can be used to monitor your search activity to deliver ads relating to your searches, so I would allow the tools to quarantine/remove the registry entries.
Because they are looking for different things or not looking at the registry at all, plus the SAS and MBAM are tools specialising in this kind of detection, which is why we suggested them.
avast doesn’t scan the registry, its anti-spyware function extends to any spyware that it detects it will look for any corresponding registry entry entry and deal with that, but it doesn’t specifically scan the registry.
Spybot S&D is meant to and since it didn’t find what realistically is a very minor isn’t a real issue (some consider it a user installed/chosen option) so don’t react to it. Whilst what is in the brackets is correct, often the user hasn’t got a clue what mywebsearch does so can’t really give informed consent and it is usually bundled with other software. So to me shows S&D should have at least mentioned it and confirms my previous comment of being on a lower rung.
You haven’t fixed the problem, only confirmed that your system wasn’t fixed by your foray into friendster.com, something on that site is infected, either the site itself could have been hacked or your friends pages. Exactly what I really couldn’t say, but if it were me I wouldn’t go near it with a big stick. Things as seemingly benign as banner ads can be hacked to direct you to a site or try to download malware as has been said social networks are rife with this type of thing.
You could try and report this problem to the webmaster or administration for friendster.com though I don’t know if they would be very responsive.
thanks for the reply.i’m very sorry if i keep bugging you( i know you have more important post than this to reply ;D)but i just want to make sure if i need to keep all the programs i have right now or just pick some.as of now i have Avast 4.8 home, Spybot S n D, Eusing Registry Cleaner, Ccleaner, Malwarebytes and Superantispyware.
In all honesty I would not use Eusing Registry Cleaner, as registry cleaners can do more harm than good, Spybot is good but old it can no longer remove any current infections. MBAM is free and updated regularly so it is good as an on demand scanner. Superantispyware is also good but the scan time is longer again it updates regularly. Your main tool though is yourself, be aware of what you are clicking and where you visit
yeah my brother told me that all i need is Avast and Ccleaner that’s it.but of course I’m not as good as him or everyone here when it comes to fixing pc problems that’s why even a small problem i always logged in here and ask for help.also even tho I’m cautious about what i click or where i visit, there are sites like friendster.com (were i guess it’s infected like DavidR said)that i use from more than 2 years now, is now infected by this Anti Virus 2009 pop up.That’s why i have these programs in my pc.so… i guess i have to uninstall Eusing Registry cleaner eh? and Spybot (since it didn’t detect what SuperAntiSpyware detects)? What do you think?
i guess i have to uninstall Eusing Registry cleaner eh?
I would recommend that.
and Spybot (since it didn't detect what SuperAntiSpyware detects)
The only advantage of Spybot is the real time protection, it will tell you if you are infected. SAS Pro does have real time protection and I think the license cost is £12 for life (can't remember but I have it) which is a small price to pay for real time protection
For myself my protection is
Avast Pro
Superantispyware Pro
Spywareblaster
Vista UAC
You’re welcome, no need for the Sir’s, no airs and graces in these forums ;D
It isn’t about just answering more important/serious posts but about helping others and giving them more information so they can up to a point look after themselves.
As essexboy mentions the user can go a long way in helping prevent infection with a healthy dose of common sense.
Eusing Registry Cleaner uninstalled. I’ll keep all these programs especially those 2 anti spyware. i don’t think having 2 anti spyware makes damage anyway.
Thank you so much guys for helping me. I feel relieved. ;D Now I can focus playing Cod 4 (lmao)
The SAS and MBAM anti-spyware programs are both fine as they are on-demand scanners (unless you by the pro version) so they only use resources when run, just don’t start scans at the same time, run one close it run the other.
Run them periodically (weekly) but before running, update them and get the latest signatures.
