Hi, Im new and I have a problem

Hi, my Avast! 4.7 Home Edition is showing a Icon like this:

. The Avast! icon usually changes and becomes active (without the red circle) and rolls around in the tray. It does that alot. I tryed reinstalling Avast! when I click Change/Remove, the computer does nothing.

Windows Security Centre shows that Avast! is working and up to date.

Do you know the problem? When the red cross is on the Icon, and I double click on it, this error comes up:

Any ideas?
Thanks!

Do you use any other antivirus in your computer?

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

Wow!, quick reply!

but, no, I click Change/remove in the add/remove programs but the computer does nothing.

Do you have any other antivirus in this computer?

  1. Try to uninstall avast from Control Panel again… and boot
  2. Use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation (read http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_uninstall_util.html)
  3. Boot
  4. Install again by this command on the folder you’ve donwload and save the install file: setupeng.exe /forceinstall
Where setupeng.exe is the name of the executable

If you really want to be sure of a complete registry cleaning, could be useful one of these Registry cleaning applications:

RegClean for Windows 98 (but works on XP)

BeClean Specially the Registry Cleaning feature
But the best, you can make a download for try, is PowerTools. Very powerful registry power tools, with lots of extra options. Unfortunately, it’s a shareware. You can run it before the expiration time and get rid from the previous antivirus application. You can choose an option for backup of the removed itens.

Ok, so I reinstalled it sucsefully, And it works again!

Thanks! is there any way I can give you reputation or something like that? because of a quick reply and good post!

Thank you!
